T206 John McGraw Scrap Printing Error sold for $5,036
Robert Edward Auctions (May 12, 2012)
Extremely unusual and almost certainly unique T206 printing-error card featuring Hall of Famer John McGraw (glove on hip pose). This is an
incredible card that almost defies description in words. This printing error looks like a typical T206 McGraw from the front but when turned
over the reverse has two different player overprints (Bradley and Manning) and two different advertising backs (Tolstoi and Piedmont) printed
on top of each other many different times. We believe this card was a printer’s scrap and was never actually issued. It was likely hand-cut
and saved from the trash by the printer or someone who worked for the printer. The card has pieces missing on the top and bottom borders and
a small hole on McGraw's cap. As collectors have become more sophisticated, there has been a growing appreciation for all great rarities and
unusual cards associated with the landmark T206 set. This is a fascinating, and very striking printing error from the T206 set. Because of its
uniqueness, there is naturally no consensus on the value of this card. We are confident the auction process will provide clarity. Encapsulated
as Authentic by SGC.
Final Bid with Buyer's Premium: $5,036
