T206 Ike Rockenfeld Multiple Strike Reverse SGC-Auth sold for $7,627
Goodwin & Co. (Jan 24, 2013)
This beautiful Broadleaf T206 of Southern Leaguer Ike Rockenfield got stuck on the press and the reverse was over-printed
several times before the press sheet released. The result is what, in numismatic terms, is known as a "double die"—when
an item is struck more than once. For some, this type of error is just an error and of little value. To others, the mistake
is a rarity. It all depends on what side of the fence you’re on. The card’s subject, Ike Rockenfield hit .346 at Spokane in
1904 which earned him two seasons with the St. Louis Browns before he would return to the minors. Although it is known
Rockenfield played 11 seasons in the minors, many suspect he played at least five more seasons prior to 1900. After his
playing days, Ike enjoyed a career as a cigar salesman.
Final Bid with Buyer's Premium: $7,627
