T206 Mickey Doolin (Phila, NL) with miscut front and back sold for $3,851
Robert Edward Auctions (April 27, 2014)
Extremely unusual T206 card of Mickey Doolin of the Philadelphia Phillies with a factory printing error.
The card has a severe factory miscut on the front and back in which the name and team, as well as part
of the image, appear at the top of the card. When it comes to the T206 set, which is the most highly
collected of all vintage-card sets, anything unusual (especially if it might in any way shed light on
the mysteries of how the T206 set was printed) is of great note. This is an extremely rare and unusual
printing anomaly. REA's Spring 2013 auction featured another Doolin printing error with a more severe
miscut (nearly a 50-50 split but in lesser condition), which realized $9,480. As collectors have become
more sophisticated, there has been a growing appreciation for all great rarities and unusual cards
associated with the landmark T206 set. This is a fascinating printing error. The card is graded and
encapsulated as FAIR 20 by SGC due to the severe miscut but remains extremely attractive with a crisp image,
bold colors, light, even wear to the corners, and only faint wrinkling along the bottom of the card on both
front and back. Collectors will appreciate the card for its unique printing anomaly much more so than for
its condition, but it is noteworthy and preferable that the card displays extremely well. This is a very
interesting and unusual card from one of the most iconic baseball-card sets ever produced, which will surely
be of great interest to collectors. Value is always subjective, but in this case, there is no consensus on
value for this card. We are confident the auction process will provide clarity. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++.
Final Bid with Buyer's Premium (18.5%): $3,851
