MastroNet Inc. sold
a T206 Ty Cobb Red Background with a 4-in-1 miscut upside-down back for $3615 in their
August 2005 auction.
The following is the auction description:
Graded 50 VG/EX 4 by SGC. Printing abnormalities are very popular among advanced
T206 collectors. The offered card, which once rested in the collection of T206
guru Bill Heitman, would certainly have to be considered the pinnacle for these
hobbyists. Upon first glance, this card appears to be a routine T206 Red Background
card of the great Ty Cobb. But, upon the turning the card over, the collector views
the source of the item's uniqueness the Sweet Caporal advertisement is completely
upside-down! In addition, the advertisement is off-centered in such a way that parts
of four separate Sweet Caporal advertisements are visible. The offered card is not
printer's scrap - it is a full production card. It was not hand-cut, and was surely
issued inside a cigarette pack. The item possesses extraordinary colors, and Cobb's
image is perfectly focused; the all-important reverse is extremely bright and
exhibits no surface imperfections. Strong Very Good to Excellent condition and
possibly one-of-a-kind!
